Bushfire-Resistant Lightweight Masonry Blocks with Expanded Perlite Aggregate

During bushfires, one of the building elements that is directly exposed to embers, radiant heat and direct flames “wall” element. This study investigated feasibility using expanded perlite aggregate in masonry (i.e., cement) blocks enhance their bushfire resistant characteristics. The chemical, physical, thermal properties were determined first then block cement mixes developed by replacing sand conventional mix with volume at different percentages (100, 80, 60, 40%). fresh hardened (slump, density, compressive strength, water absorption) measured. Bushfire Flame Zone conditions 20–842 °C) standard fire curve for three hours 20–1110 assess resistance bushfires fires, respectively.
